TESTIMONIALS

“I didn't know quite what I was getting into--or how I had come to Wooden Boats for Veterans to begin with, but I got a wild idea somewhere about sailing and wooden boat building and it seemed a good place to start. It became an opportunity to come together with fellow Veterans from all wars and to be placed among people and places that support Veterans like WBFV”
Brian, US Navy SEAL, restoration and sailing program participant

“I am so proud to be affiliated with WBFV.  The members have given Veterans who’ve participated a renewed sense of purpose and vigor in learning about the sea and how a sailboat moves through the water.  I wholeheartedly endorse their program and recommend without hesitation that they be supported in helping veterans.”
Mike, US Navy Vietnam Veteran, Retired San Francisco Firefighter, volunteer

"We are happy to be able to integrate WBFV's sailing and restoration programs with our program for all veterans who want to be involved.  Our mentees look forward to the camaraderie and feel a sense of accomplishment in reaching the goal of being on the water as a reward for completing milestones in our program; but they also thorough enjoy the experience."
Jason Chittavong, former Marine, Supervisor San Francisco Veteran Justice Court Mentorship Program

"We are proud to support WBFV and are very impressed by what they have accomplished; and to meet the very enthusiastic volunteers and veterans who have been helping and benefiting along the way.  A Re-christening signifies a change, a re-birth.  In Clover's case it represents the beginning of a new phase of her life. Thanks to the labors of volunteers, she has regained her youth and ready to set sail once again.  In her new role she will help those, who have also experienced war, find the joy that saltwater can bring.  On behalf of the Commandery of St. Francis we wish her smooth sailing."
Keith Turner, Commandery of St. Francis, Order of St. John, Knights Hospitaller.”

"Terry found the Clover in disrepair. He salvaged her and over the past years he has given her new purpose. The men and women who served come from places like the Veteran Justice Court and UOP spend their time restoring Clover. This is just a small part of the journey she has made. She will sail again. I can't tell you the emotion that I experienced being a part of and filming the journey."
Stan Rapada, Retired Navy Master Chief, Vietnam Veteran, Director of Veteran Affairs at University of the Pacific

"We look at the benefits of WBFV program from several viewpoints.  One is they offer the kind of work and training that is best for optimizing rehabilitation.  Another is the ability to match the rehab to the phenotype (different groupings of veterans and levels of injury).  Another is looking at the advantages of a project based learning environment for rehab... it makes WBFV relevant for military recruiting, training, PTSD research and even implications to education and incarceration."
Steve Carnevale, Sponsor, UCSF Brain Research at the Dyslexia Center

“This approach builds a restorative mindset and a sense of confidence in oneself and the collective community. Now triple and quadruple the number of veterans who can benefit, especially when a more formal evaluation can identify the outcomes and results of this work at scale. And then, provide them the purpose of navigating the boat they restored, to deliver critical veteran services to those rural and out of the way areas where veterans ultimately reside in our great state.  THAT is the promise of this program – veterans helping other veterans.”
Don Shalvey, Ed.D., Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Advisor to WBFV

“Terry and WBFV have created a meaningful program for us to partner with in the service of restoring Veterans in our program to thriving and productive citizens.  We are so grateful for their support.”
Judge Jeff Ross, San Francisco County Superior Court, Veteran Justice Court Program:

"We are happy to be able to integrate WBFV's sailing and restoration programs with our program for all veterans who want to be involved.  Our mentees look forward to the camaraderie and feel a sense of accomplishment in reaching the goal of being on the water as a reward for completing milestones in our program; but they also thorough enjoy the experience."
